White aims to exploit the weakened d5 square created by Black's ...e5 push, typically maneuvering a knight to d5 via c3-d5 or f3-d2-c4-d6. White will also look to place pieces actively with Bc4 or Bg5 and generate kingside pressure or occupy central outposts before Black's queenside counterplay materializes.
Black adopts the Sveshnikov-like setup, accepting the d5 weakness in exchange for strong central control with ...e5 and active piece play. Black will push ...b5-b4 to generate queenside counterplay, challenge the knight on d5 with ...Be6 or ...Nxd5, and aim to activate the bishop pair while making White's c3-knight passive.
